Instructions for repairing a split red liquid column in a thermometer When using red liquid in modern thermometers, it can happen that the liquid column breaks. For this purpose, at the top, at the end of the tube, there is a special tiny reservoir. Then, holding the thermometer in a vertical position, the main reservoir of liquid down, slowly heat the lower reservoir of the thermometer, only until the tube is completely filled with red liquid up to the upper tiny reservoir. Do not heat any further as the tube may burst. Then the gas separating the liquid column will escape upwards in the upper reservoir and the liquid will be combined. Then place the thermometer in an upright position to cool slowly. The liquid column will be continuous and the thermometer is working. To avoid the above problems, the thermometer should always be stored in an upright position.
